Octavia Spencer was named best supporting actress at the 69th Golden Globes Sunday for her turn as the sharp-tongued maid Minny Jackson in the civil rights era drama ‘The Help,’ based on Kathryn Stockett’s novel. Spencer was nominated in the category alongside her ‘Help’ costar Jessica Chastain.
‘I was scared to death to play [Minny],’ Spencer told The Times last year. ‘They hyped it up to the studio: ‘She’d be great, she’d be great,’ and then I’m thinking I don’t know if I’d be great... When I finally stopped judging Minny and I embraced her, then I was happy.’
