Plácido Domingo celebrates with Spain’s World Cup champions

Spain captured its World Cup victory on Sunday, beating the Netherlands in overtime. To help his country celebrate, tenor Plácido Domingo flew to South Africa, where he watched the final match and participated in the post-victory festivities.

The photograph above shows Domingo, far right, with members of Spain’s winning team. It was posted on Twitter by @JeissonCastillo and was re-tweeted by @LAOpera.

Domingo was born in Madrid in 1941, but spent much of his youth in Mexico. He is currently in the middle of a run of Verdi’s ‘Simon Boccanegra’ at London’s Royal Opera.
