The Washington Times has appointed Sam Dealey, a journalist and fellow at the conservative Hoover Institution, as its next top editor.
Dealey is a contributor at U.S. News and World Report and has served as an editorial writer for the Asian edition of the Wall Street Journal. The 36-year-old has written for Time, Reader’s Digest and other outlets.
The appointment comes after the newspaper slashed more than 40% of its staff. Dealey succeeds John Solomon.
In an announcement today, publisher Jonathan Slevin said Dealey was chosen after a nationwide search and would lead the paper to serve as “an independent watchdog for the American people.”
Dealey said this is a chance to help shape the publication during its overhaul, which comes at a time when many newspapers are struggling financially.
