Girls’ basketball: Palm Springs gives Indio a history lesson

Palm Springs took a bite out of Indio on Tuesday night, handing the Rajahs their first home loss in at least four years with a 54-41 overtime victory.

The way the headline reads, it could have been a much longer home-winning streak, but I guess nobody at Indio can remember that far back.

I’m a little worried about what’s in the air in the Coachella Valley because Palm Springs senior guard Priscilla Payne also doesn’t seem to remember anything before her freshman year either, telling a reporter after the victory, ‘I’ve been waiting for so long for this--since my freshman year--my whole life.’’

Unless she was a ninth-grader when she was born, that sentence seems a bit contradictory.

Anyhow, both teams are knotted up with 5-2 records in Desert Valley League play, two games behind leader Coachella Valley.
