Tennis: We’re underway at the City semis in the Valley

As expected, Josh Tchan has been impressive during Wednesday’s City Section individual semifinals at Balboa Sports Complex at Encino. The junior from Taft is leading Ken Mkrtchian of SOCES, 3-0, in the first set and appears poised to advance to Monday’s finals.

Mkrtchian’s brother, Dennis, also from SOCES, is fairing slightly better than his sibling. The freshman is tied with North Hollywood’s Dillon Klincke, 5-5, in the first set. Tchan could have to defeat both Mkrtchian’s in order to win the individual title.

In doubles play, Palisades’ Matt Goodman and Jeremy Shore are leading Taft’s Alex Freeman and Aaron Teitelbaum, 4-3, in the first set.
