Jamie Dixon, the Pittsburgh coach and former Sherman Oaks Notre Dame standout, is at the Henderson International School in Nevada looking for prospects. He wouldn’t say how close he came to taking the USC job, but he was adamant about the growing importance of this week’s high school basketball competition.

‘This is huge because you can’t go out in April,’ he said of the event. ‘It’s become critical. We get so little time to watch kids play.’

Dixon brought along his father, Jim, who lives in the San Fernando Valley.

USC’s new coach, Kevin O’Neill, is also in the gym. O’Neill might want to thank Dixon for staying put at Pittsburgh.
