Top-seeded Pasadena Poly went on an 8-2 run at the end of the second quarter to give the Panthers a 23-18 halftime lead against second-seeded Palos Verdes Peninsula Chadwick in the Southern Section Division 5A championship game at Santa Ana Mater Dei.

After trailing by as many as seven points in the first quarter, Haley Bush was fouled on a made jump shot and converted her free throw to give the Dolphins their first lead of the game at 16-15 with 3:25 remaining in the half. Poly, however, regained the momentum with a late run and suffocating defense.
