Georgia Gets Probation for Football Recruiting

The University of Georgia said Thursday that its football program had been put on probation by the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. for a year, but added that the penalty would not affect television or bowl appearances.

Claude Felton, Georgia’s sports information director, said that the school had been notified that it would be penalized for recruiting violations by a reduction in football scholarships, from 30 to 23, in 1985 and 1986.
