Carter Honored by Methodists

LAKE JUNALUSKA, N.C. — Former President Jimmy Carter has been chosen by the World Methodist Council for its 1985 Peace Award, the first American citizen so honored.
The award, given periodically by the council of Methodist and Methodist-related churches in 90 countries, is to be presented March 13 at Emory University in Atlanta by retired United Methodist Bishop William R. Cannon.
The award went last year to attorney Tai Young Lee of South Korea for championing the cause of women and the poor. Carter, a Southern Baptist, was cited for his commitment and contributions to the goal of world peace and increased understanding among people.
