Federal Study of Banking in Farm Belt States Urged

WASHINGTON — Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad and two Kansas senators Friday called for the establishment of a presidential task force to study problems in the ailing farm economy and agricultural banking.
The request was made as Branstad, Senate Majority Leader Robert J. Dole and Sen. Nancy L. Kassebaum opened a meeting with federal and state banking officials to discuss problems of banks in Farm Belt states.
