COSBY STILL IN RUNNING FOR GLOBE

Bill Cosby will remain in the running for a Golden Globe Award despite his request that he be withdrawn from consideration, the president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Assn. said Wednesday.
Jorge Camara said the group had received a wire from Cosby “asking that his name be withdrawn because he does not believe in competing with his peers” but the group declined to comply because it does not view Golden Globe nominations as a competition.
Cosby, the star of “The Cosby Show” on NBC, was one of five performers nominated as best actor in a TV comedy series.
Other nominees in the category are Sherman Hemsley of CBS’ “The Jeffersons,” Robert Guillaume of ABC’s “Benson,” Ted Danson of NBC’s “Cheers” and Bob Newhart of CBS’ “Newhart.”
