Financial Corp. of America, Los Angeles, has named Michael A. Durkin executive vice president and chief lending officer, replacing Philip R. Brinkerhoff, who resigned last month to become chief executive of Financial Corp. of Santa Barbara. The two firms are not affiliated.

Durkin, 46, was president of Los Angeles-based United Savings & Loan Assn. when Popejoy was chief executive of its parent firm, Financial Federation Inc. Fin Fed was acquired by Great Western Financial Corp. in 1983.
