A 19-year-old Ramona man died Friday after he apparently lost control of his car, which ran off the road and struck a tree. Authorities said Brian Chmiel was driving on Highland Valley Road about three miles east of Bandy Canyon Road near Poway when the accident occurred about 6:15 a.m. He was taken by helicopter to Palomar Hospital in Escondido, where he was pronounced dead at 8:56 a.m., a coroner’s spokesman said.
