Joseph Simonson, Former Envoy

MINNEAPOLIS — Joseph Simonson, a Lutheran minister selected by President Dwight D. Eisenhower as his ambassador to Ethiopia, died Thursday of cancer. He was 80.
Simonson, who lived most of his live in the Minneapolis area, was ambassador from 1953 to 1957.
As a minister he gave the invocations at the national Republican conventions in 1944 and 1952.
