Northridge Beats UCI in Swimming

Cal State Northridge defeated UC Irvine in men’s and women’s swimming meets Saturday at the Crawford Hall pool.
The Anteater men, who lost 73-60, were led by Marc Huynen, who won the 100-backstroke in 58.02. In the 200-breast, Kirk Nicholoson and Brian Herbelin finished one-two with times of 2.13:31 and 2.14:15. Irvine’s record falls to 5-4.
UCI’s women lost, 71-62. Anteater sophomore Melanie Reed took first in the 50-free in 24.97 seconds, setting a school record. The previous record of 25.02 was set by Denis Watson in 1984. The Irvine women are 7-3.
