Texan Who Lost $1 Million on Dice Roll Kills Himself

LAS VEGAS — A Texas gambler who reportedly lost $1 million on a single roll of the dice here last November has committed suicide, police reported Tuesday.
But his death had nothing to do with the money, acquaintances said.
The body of William Lee Bergstrom, 33, of Austin was found Monday in his room at the Marina Hotel. He apparently died of an overdose of various unidentified capsules and pills, according to police Sgt. Frank Jergovic.
Jergovic said Bergstrom left a will in his room, but he declined to disclose its contents.
Executives at Binion’s Horseshoe Casino said Bergstrom was a high roller they knew well. Ted Binion of the casino said Bergstrom was despondent over personal problems that “had nothing to do with gambling.”
Binion said the $1-million loss “tapped him out, but he still acted like it was nothing.”
Bergstrom was the owner of an apartment complex in Texas.
