Jurors found 21-year-old Alex Edward Duran guilty of first-degree murder in the 1982 stabbing of Los Angeles cab driver Carlos Woll, 50, a crime that at the time prompted calls from the United Independent Taxi Drivers Assn. for more protection from robbers. Prosecutors have been asked that he be sentenced to life in prison without possibility of parole. He will be formally sentenced by Superior Court Judge Henry Nelson on March 4.
