Playing without starting center Donna Gondringe (lost for the playoffs with a leg injury) the top-seeded La Quinta High School girls basketball team struggled to a 51-48 first-round win over pesky Buena Park Saturday night in the Aztecs gym.
Melissa Fejdasz led La Quinta with 15 points. Buena Park’s center, 6-4 freshman Stacey Rooney, almost single-handedly beat La Quinta (22-4), scoring 28 points.
No one else on the Coyote squad had more than two points. Buena Park ended its season at 15-5.
