Airspur Helicopters will cease operations.

The Santa Ana commuter line, which operates one of only two air taxi services between Orange County’s John Wayne Airport and Los Angeles International Airport, will shut down operations tonight, officials said. Airspur President Gary O’Connor said the sudden decision was due to insufficient passenger loads. In addition to the Orange County shuttle, Airspur will eliminate its nine daily flights between Oxnard and LAX. Airspur has been struggling since late 1983, when one of its helicopters crashed in Long Beach, injuring all six people aboard.
