Key Economic Posts Affected in Shuffle of Kuwaiti Cabinet

KUWAIT — The crown prince and prime minister of Kuwait, Sheik Saad al Abdullah al Sabah, shuffled his Cabinet on Sunday, introducing eight new faces among 15 ministers who will serve under him in a new government.
As expected, the Cabinet includes changes in key economic posts, while the foreign, defense and interior portfolios remain in the hands of incumbent ministers.
The changes follow last month’s National Assembly elections, in which voters expressed some disenchantment with the government’s economic and social policies, political observers said.
The Cabinet includes one former member of the 50-member National Assembly, Jassem Khorafi, who was named minister of finance and economy.
The long-serving oil minister, Sheik Ali al Khalifa al Sabah, drops his second portfolio, that of finance minister, but retains the oil position and adds the Industry Ministry.
