A Municipal Court judge Monday scheduled a preliminary hearing for jailed financier J. David (Jerry) Dominelli, Nancy Hoover and Tom Shepard for May 7. The three defendants were indicted in 1984 along with Mayor Roger Hedgecock on charges that they conspired to funnel illegal campaign contributions into Hedgecock’s campaign. Dominelli, who is scheduled to go to trial in federal court on May 2 on charges of bankruptcy fraud, will return to state court March 25, when his attorney is expected to ask the judge to dismiss the grand jury indictment. Shepard, who served as Hedgecock’s political consultant, was ordered to return to court Friday so that Judge Frederic L. Link can determine if he is eligible for a court-appointed attorney. Hoover, Dominelli’s former business partner, and Shepard are free on bond, while Dominelli remains jailed at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. Hedgecock, who was indicted with the three defendants, waived a preliminary hearing and was tried on conspiracy and perjury charges. His trial ended last month with jurors deadlocked 11 to 1 for conviction. A new trial has been scheduled for May 8.
