The state Department of Parks and Recreation has awarded $140,000 to the city for improvements at Darby Park and the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center.
The funds, which have no matching requirement, will be used to upgrade the park’s athletic field and security lighting; refurbish the picnic area with barbecue pits, tables and benches; construct two outdoor handball courts; replace the park’s irrigation system, and build a parking lot for the community center.
