A $500,000 endowed chair in Italian Renaissance studies has been named for Franklin D. Murphy, chairman of the Times Mirror Executive Committee and a former chancellor of UCLA.
The endowment was established through a gift from Times Mirror Foundation honoring Murphy for his accomplishments in higher education, business, medicine and the arts, university officials said.
