Culver City : Block Grants to Go to Access for Disabled

The City Council has decided to allocate most of its $509,000 in Community Development Block Grant funds to improving access to public facilities for the disabled.
Just over $155,000 will be used to remove barriers, such as stairs, that bar wheelchairs from public buildings. Another $100,000 will be used for curb cuts. And $30,000 will be used to pay for the salary and benefits of the city’s coordinator of services for the disabled, Doug Martin.
The most important curb cuts and barrier-removal projects were designated by the city’s committee on the disabled.
The council, in approving a budget for the fiscal year that begins in July, also approved spending $145,000 for neighborhood preservation projects and $45,000 for widening and repaving Kerr Way.
