Architects Selected to Design New Burbank Airport Terminal

The Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority has selected a Los Angeles architectural firm to plan and design an airport terminal building and parking structure at the Burbank airport.
Howard Needles Tammen & Bergendoff was selected from among five companies considered by an airport committee to study design of an 11-gate, 190,000-square-foot terminal to replace the current 55-year-old building. The firm will work with Thompson-Crenshaw architectural consultants of Los Angeles and the Charles Walton Associates architectural firm of Glendale.
Consultant Ronald W. Aarons said designers must overcome a number of obstacles to integrate the terminal building with a 5,000-car parking structure and provide ingress and egress roadways on a relatively small site--40 acres northeast of the two airport runways.
The airport is negotiating purchase of the site from Lockheed Corp.
Airport officials have not signed a contract with consultants, but they estimate that the six-month study will cost about $500,000.
