Photonic Automation Inc. of Santa Ana has been awarded its first major production contract. It will build electro-optical systems for use in laser scanners being made by Alpharel Inc. of Camarillo. Alpharel, in partnership with American Telephone and Telegraph Co., recently won a major contract to build a computerized document storage system. Thomas Stenglein, president of Photonic, declined to disclose the value of the contract to his company but said it has great significance because additional scanners will be needed later.
