Local News in Brief : Bomb Explodes in Van Nuys Parking Lot; No One Injured

Asmall bomb exploded in the parking lot of a Van Nuys supermarket Friday night, breaking windows in nearby stores but injuring no one, police said.
Police Sgt. Hapton Stal said an “improvised explosive device” blew up after it was thrown under a car in the parking lot of the Ralphs supermarket at the northwest corner of Sherman Way and Woodman Avenue at 9:55 p.m. Fragments of the bomb broke a window above the entrance to the supermarket 150 yards away and another window in a restaurant across Sherman Way.
Stal said police did not know who threw the device or why it was thrown.
