DE WAART TO REPLACE WAND FOR PHILHARMONIC CONCERTS
- Share via
Edo de Waart, outgoing music director of the San Francisco Symphony, will replace Guenter Wand as guest conductor of the Los Angeles Philharmonic for the two weeks of subscription concerts, April 11-21, scheduled to be led by Wand.
The German conductor is ill and has canceled all engagements through July, according to a Philharmonic spokesman.
De Waart will conduct the same repertory announced for Wand’s appearances, with, the spokesman said, “the possible exception” of Mozart’s Piano Concerto in E-flat, K. 482, originally scheduled to be played by Rudolf Serkin on April 18, 19 and 21. Serkin, who will be 82 on Thursday, is reportedly suffering from exhaustion and has canceled coming engagements in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles.
