Southern Section Volleyball Playoffs : Carpenter Rallies Edison to Win

Outside hitter Chris Carpenter came off the bench in the middle of the second game to help Edison High School to a 10-15, 15-13, 15-3, 15-9 win over Woodbridge Saturday night in Irvine in the quarterfinals of the Southern Section 4-A boys’ volleyball playoffs.
Carpenter suffered an ankle injury in the Chargers’ first-round win over Santa Monica Thursday and was not expected to play against Woodbridge. He finished with 12 kills. Junior middle blocker Danny Hanan had 16 kills and 7 stuff blocks for Edison (16-2), and senior setter David Wetzel controlled the Chargers’ offense.
In other 4-A action:
Dana Hills 3, Santa Barbara 1--The Dolphins advanced to Tuesday’s semifinal match against Edison with a 15-12, 15-11, 15-2 win at Santa Barbara.
Corona del Mar 3, El Toro 0--The top-seeded Sea Kings advanced to a semifinal meeting with North Torrance with a 15-9, 15-10, 15-4 win.
