SADLER’S WELLS FACES CLOSING

LONDON — The Sadler’s Wells opera and dance theater may have to close if it fails to raise $8.5 million to modernize, its director said.
Stephen Remington told a news conference the facilities had remained virtually unchanged for 50 years and had deterred many British and foreign companies from appearing.
“It is hard to see how the theater will survive,” he said, when asked what would happen if the appeal failed.
