The Venice Town Council and the Coalition of Concerned Communities, a South Bay homeowners group, will hold a joint meeting tonight to develop strategy against a proposed city ordinance requiring new developers to pay for traffic improvements in coastal communities .
The two organizations dispute city claims that the fees--estimated to be $235 million over the next 25 years--would slow down traffic congestion in coastal communities between Venice and Los Angeles International Airport.
“We believe the ordinance will result in the exact opposite and actually increase traffic congestion,” said Patrick McCartney, secretary of the Venice Town Council. “What is needed is a restriction on development--and the proposed ordinance has no such restriction.”
The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Old Venice City Hall, 681 Venice Blvd.
