POP NUMBERERS

We totally disagree with Robert Hilburn’s judgment on the relative importance of Vocal Performance versus the Song (“PopMeter: What’ve Numbers Got to Do With It?,” April 28).
Hilburn’s figures concerning the average importance of these factors are: The song itself, 50% of the total impact of the record; vocal, about 20%, and 30% to be divided among production, accessibility and musicianship.
Our figures were much more realistic at 51%, 22%, and 27%.
