PEKING — Secretary of Commerce Malcolm Baldrige arrived in Peking on Saturday for talks expected to touch on barriers to U.S. high-technology exports and prospects for more American investment in China. Baldrige and his 30-member delegation were greeted at Peking airport by Zheng Tuobin, minister of foreign economic relations and trade.
The two men are co-chairmen of a joint commission that will hold its third annual session Monday to examine industrial and technological cooperation. Baldrige flies to New Delhi on Wednesday for talks with Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi about India’s economic policies, and then goes to Moscow May 20-21 for the first high-level trade meeting with the Soviet Union since 1978.
