Cal Poly Pomona Wins Playoff Opener, 5-3

Skylar Faria’s three-run homer capped Cal Poly Pomona’s four-run fifth inning as the Broncos defeated Cal State Sacramento, 5-3, Thursday at Cal Poly Pomona in the first game of the NCAA Division II West Regional baseball playoffs.
The best-of-five series will continue with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. today at Scolinos Field.
The Broncos managed 13 hits off Hornet loser Steve Brueggemann (12-2), including three each by John Love and Dave Schuster.
Mike Munoz (14-6) went the distance for the Broncos despite giving up 11 hits. He struck out four and walked one.
