University upset previously unbeaten Chatsworth, 15-11, 15-7, 15-10, to win the City volleyball championship Friday night before a crowd of about 1,500 at Pepperdine University.
Chatsworth (17-1) was the defending City champion and had won 32 straight best-of-five matches dating back to a loss to University 14 months ago.
University (13-3) lost to the Chancellors two months ago and spotted them about four inches per man, but the Warriors used their superior quickness to negate Chatsworth’s height advantage.
“We played a percentage game,” said University Coach Neal Newman. “We gave them the lines and took away the middle of the court.”
University, with no starter taller than 6-0 Erik Ferris, was in control most of the way after overcoming a 4-0 deficit in the first game.
