74 Drown in India as Overloaded Boat Sinks

NEW DELHI — An overloaded boat traveling down the Chambal River in central India capsized, drowning at least 74 passengers as 16 others swam to safety, the Press Trust of India reported Monday.
The boat, carrying 90 passengers, capsized Sunday in midstream near Morena in Madhya Pradesh state, 135 miles south of New Delhi, the news agency reported. Officials said the passengers were from the villages of Dhanavali and Dabasai on the Madhya Pradesh-Rajasthan border.
