Retirement Home Fire Investigated

CORONA — Officials are investigating a fire that destroyed part of a utility building at the Corona Gables retirement home in east Corona, Fire Battalion Chief Ben Blair said Wednesday.
The Tuesday night blaze was contained within 15 minutes, Blair said, but caused extensive damage to boilers and electrical equipment in the concrete-block and wooden outbuilding at 1400 Circle City Drive.
A wooden wing of the building, used as a laundry facility, was destroyed. The Corona Fire Department issued no estimate of the cost of the damage, pending an evaluation by the home’s insurer.
No one was injured in the blaze, Blair said, and power to the main building at the home was uninterrupted.
