A 16-year-old Fountain Valley girl has died from injuries suffered in the crash of an allegedly stolen vehicle on the Golden State Freeway three miles north of Castaic on Saturday, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol said.
Thuy-Trinh Tham was fatally injured when the driver of the car, Dung Van Mai, 20, of Garden Grove, fell asleep about 9 a.m. Saturday, Officer Robert Pike said. The car swerved to the right and hit a guard rail.
Mai was not injured, but Tham died Wednesday at Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.
Investigators later discovered that the car was reported stolen and Mai was arrested on suspicion of car theft, Pike said.
