CAIRO — Egypt expressed concern and sorrow Thursday over the hijacking of a TWA jetliner and said it hopes the ordeal of 40 American hostages being held in Beirut will end soon.
“The Egyptian government followed with great concern and sorrow the several hijackings of airliners during the past few weeks, the last of which was the hijacking of the American plane,” a government spokesman said in statements published by the local press.
“Its passengers are still in detention, and we hope their tragedy will be ended soon,” the spokesman said.
