A malfunctioning hot plate sparked a fire that gutted a Southeast San Diego doctor’s office and caused the evacuation of a card room next door, a fire department spokesman said.
No one was in the office of Dr. Dzieu Hoang Le, located at 4748 El Cajon Blvd., when the fire started. About 10 patrons of the Acee Ducee card room were evacuated for about 20 minutes while firefighters fought the blaze.
The fire, which caused about $70,000 in damage, was contained to the office.
