Drought-Stricken Chad Gets Rain, Floods

N’DJAMENA, Chad--The central African country of Chad, which has experienced drought for the past 10 years, has been hit by floods from several weeks of torrential rain, according to weather and aid officials.
Heavy rain over most of Chad since the end of June has caused flooding in the central and southeast sections of the country. Despite the rains, Chadian herdsmen complain that there is not enough grass to feed livestock because pastures have withered in the prolonged drought.
