Two men took a briefcase filled with about $20,000 this morning from a woman who was on her way to work at a border exchange house on San Ysidro Boulevard, a police spokesman said.
Arcelia Flores, an employee of the currency exchange house Las Palmas, was carrying a briefcase holding about $10,000 cash and about $10,000 worth of pesos when she was approached by two men at 9:10 a.m., San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said. The men grabbed the briefcase, pushed Flores to the ground, then fled, Robinson said.
Witnesses tried to catch the men, but stopped when one of the robbers brandished a knife, Robinson said. The men escaped behind a motel, then jumped over a fence to a waiting car on Interstate 5, he said.
