Two teen-agers died Friday morning near Lake Hodges after the car they were in ran off the road, went down a 35-foot embankment and overturned, pinning them inside, authorities said.
Fernando Vallina, 16, and Scott Andrew Finley, 18, both of Escondido, were traveling north on Del Dios Highway, south of Elm Lane, when Vallina lost control of the car, according to Deputy Coroner George Dickason.
The car, which witnesses estimated was traveling at 80 m.p.h., landed about 30 feet west of the road at 12:40 a.m., California Highway Patrol Officer Michelle Christ said.
Vallina and Finley were pulled from the car but died at the scene a short time later.
