Western Union Corp. and two unions representing 7,100 technicians, operators and clerks negotiated against a midnight strike deadline as they sought a new contract. Negotiations to replace a three-year pact were going on simultaneously with the United Telegraph Workers in Hollywood, Fla., and the Communications Workers of America in Westbury, N. Y. Reduction of severance pay and the use of part-time help to cut down on overtime pay were the remaining issues to be negotiated.
