The United States, with three world record-holders in the lineup, dominated opening-day competition of the Pan-Pacific swimming championships at Tokyo’s Olympic Memorial Pool by winning seven of eight events.
No world records were broken, but Matt Biondi won the 50-meter freestyle in 22.73 seconds and finished second to Mike Heath in the 200-meter freestyle.
