An El Monte police officer investigating a disturbance fatally shot a man who allegedly attempted to attack him with a knife, police said. Two officers were summoned to an apartment on Bryant Avenue where there was a confrontation with several persons, Officer Victor Hernandez said. Jess Hernandez, 26, who lived in the neighborhood, was pronounced dead at Arcadia Methodist Hospital from a single shot in the torso, Hernandez said. Police did not reveal the names of the officers involved.
