LONG BEACH — In an unusual gesture of support, 41 area artists have donated 42 works of art to be raffled Sunday to benefit the Long Beach Museum of Art.
The museum is trying to raise $300,000 by the end of September in order to satisfy an agreement with the city under which the museum, now city-operated, would become a privately operated institution.
Judy Maltese, director of development for the museum foundation, which is sponsoring the fund-raiser, said the art works--including paintings, sculptures and ceramic pieces--will be given away in lots. The first-place winner, she said, will receive 15 pieces, the second-place winner 10, the third-place winner seven, and the fourth- and fifth-place winners five each.
Tickets for the event, to be held from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Works Gallery, 2740 E. Broadway, are $50. They may be purchased at the museum, 2300 E. Ocean Blvd. Information may be obtained by calling the foundation at 439-2119.
