Furor Over Farrakhan
I ventured from my comfortable, white suburb to find out what Louis Farrakhan was really saying. I’m glad I did. The man I heard at the Forum was not the man I had read about. He was witty and intelligent and as American as Thomas Paine.
It is not news that Farrakhan believes the Jews are not the chosen people. (How many of us really think they are?) The story here is why there are people who are not content simply to disagree with Farrakhan but want to silence him.
Are they afraid that blacks, native Americans and Puerto Ricans will take his economic unity program seriously and achieve true independence? Are they afraid that someday there will no longer be an underclass to mop their floors?
