Home Fire Doused After Quick Alert

Spotting smoke pouring from a garage, motorist Mark Zimmer used a mobile phone Friday to call firefighters to a Huntington Beach home. Within 15 minutes, firefighters had doused a fire that caused $35,000 damage to the garage and roof of a two-story home on Wellbrook Lane.
The cause of the fire was still under investigation Friday night, Fire Capt. Charles Burney said. Homeowners Jim and Sara Stringer and their five children were not home at the time of the fire, Fire Department spokeswoman Martha Werth said.
