I wonder if Caltrans engineer Don Rosbaugh, who is in charge of the future construction of a bridge to replace the current Bonsall Bridge, pays any attention to the subject he is charged with handling. In your Postscript of Oct. 7, “Old Bridge Still Awaits New Span,” you quote him as saying: “What’s the use of saving a bridge you can’t use? If people get their jollies driving out there to look at it, I guess that’s fine.”
Does Rosbaugh not know about the various proposals to utilize trails? Does he not understand the tranquility that comes from simply standing on a quiet bridge and watching the passing river--and passing world--flowing underneath?
There are dozens of ways to utilize the Bonsall Bridge after the traffic has been removed. Let us hope that the person in charge of deciding what those uses will be has more creativity and feel for things than Rosbaugh.
